Step Back, Relax, and Give Thanks

“We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures.”

--Thornton Wilder

As many consistent readers and listeners of IWS know, life has hit a rough patch here in the Bagwine digs for Schmoop and me, and it would be easy, on this day of thanksgiving, to write about how my spirit, soul, and optimism have experienced blunt force trauma to the skull, but I refuse to allow that to happen.

After all…It’s Thanksgiving Day here in America, and in spite of  personal setbacks, serious illness, and what could only be called, plain bad luck, I am very thankful for many things.

In spite of my oft times public displays of cynicism and sarcasm, I am at heart, a bit of an optimist, and perhaps that is why Thanksgiving has always been and has remained, in spite of its growing irrelevance in the eyes of many Americans of late, my favorite holiday.

Don’t get me wrong; Christmas is fantastic…

Christmas shines with the glow of dazzlingly wrapped gifts, the colorful lights, good-natured ho ho ho’s, and smiles on the faces of babes, but Thanksgiving has for me, always contained something much warmer, more comforting, and much brighter than the wonderful excitement that abounds at Christmas.

Growing up, Thanksgiving was the family day.

With no interference or distractions of giving and receiving presents, my family of eleven would spend the day doing nothing, as we all burrowed within my mom and dad’s house while waiting for the Thanksgiving Day feast to be fully cooked and presented.

But by spending the day doing nothing, I mean, watching football together.  Playing football together.
Drinking beer together.  Making fun of each other together.  Smiling together, and having a great day together.

On those Thanksgiving days more than any other day of the year, we…were…family.

And to me?

It was the greatest feeling in the world, especially when I was eight years old or so, and was stuck eating at the kids’ table, which happened to be a rickety red card table with discolorations and indentations resulting from years of spilled beers and fist poundings from my Uncle Eddie’s inability and lack of luck to draw to an inside straight.

It didn’t matter; it was family…And today, on this glorious day of Thanksgiving…

In spite of Schmoop’s health challenges, I will be putting aside my angst, nervousness, and worries as to how our future will unwind, and do nothing but cook, drink, and enjoy my family.

I will spend the day calling my immediate family.  I will shoot my long-time friend Richard a call.  I may talk to my beloved partner in crime and friend, Jayman.  And I will of course…

Spend the day with my best friend of twelve years, Schmoop.

And a couple of things about Schmoop and I spending Thanksgiving together.  We won’t be spending it alone.

You see, a friend of mine, a very sweet friend…one of my very best friends Miss, came through the Beer Mine the other night and dropped some things off for Schmoop and I to have for Thanksgiving.

It was inordinately generous, and I said to her, “Miss, thank you so much, and I am sure I will thank you a hundred more times in the near future.”

Miss said to me, “Don’t thank me.  We are family. Family doesn't have to thank one and other.”

And she’s right.  Although not related, she and I have become family, because a deep and true friendship is like being family.

And that is how I feel about Miss, about Schmoop, about Jayman, and about a handful of my other friends.

And in spite of Schmoop’s bad turn, we have that family on which to fall, and rest, and chances are...many of you do as well.

And on this day of Thanksgiving, we need to take a second to realize that, and appreciate those who make life's slumber sound.

Cheers!!

Bad Fortune Cookie Messages

Hola y’all! Do you love Chinese food? Of course you do. Everyone does! Well, except me. I know that you’re surprised by that what with my love of Asian babes and all. I’m just weird that way, I guess. Anyway, I do love Fortune Cookies though, even if they are kind of hokey. So, here are some messages you aren’t likely to get in your Fortune Cookies next time you hit the Chinese Buffett.

“Do you really believe this shit?”

“Bet you wish you had done Mexican instead, huh?”

“All previous fortunes are now invalid. Sorry about that.”

“You’re probably gonna die alone.”

“It’s okay to act out your homoerotic dreams.”

“There’s someone hiding in your bedroom closet.”

“Your partner will bring you a surprise that you can treat with antibiotics.”

“Don’t watch that new show ‘Nashville’ on ABC. It’s gonna suck.”

“Those weren’t raisins.”

“The cook with the long hair and dozens of tats and piercings? Yeah, he has TB.”

“That guy you think is your brother is really your father.”

“You will live downstairs from a sexual deviant with bad taste in music.”

“Creepy guys will sniff you in the elevator.”

“You have 20 minutes to get home before the cramps start.”

“I bet you were going to put a pic of this on Instagram, weren’t you?”

“Listen to I’m With Stupid every Wed at 11 am ET and Sun at 12 Noon ET: www.blogtalkradio.com/im-with-stupid.

“You should probably take it easy on the Crab Rangoon big boy.”

“Your mother never really loved you.”

“99% of your Facebook ‘friends’ hate you.”

Okay, there you go. That’s way better than all the silly “You will meet a mysterious stranger” stuff you usually get!

Missy's Flour Power Hour

Holaaaaaaaaa friends, readers, listeners and supporters. Sunday was a HUGE day for the I’m With Stupid franchise. Our good friend Missy and her adorable daughters held a Lemonade Stand and Bake Sale to raise funds to help the IWS podcast go premium.

Because Missy is such a sweet and selfless person, she made up some chocolate chip cookie bars, brownies and …. ANNNNNNNNNNND …. Glazed Lemon Poppy Seed Muffins! Oh yeahhhhhh! And a big jug of fresh and delicious lemonade WITH lemon slices! Missy and the girls got all the goodies ready on Saturday.

But that’s not all. Oh no! Most people would stop there, but not Missy. She and the girls made up posters too!

Plus, they each wore t-shirts that said “Lemon Aid for IWS” Ha! Get it? Lemon “AID???” That’s pretty cute.

On Sunday they got all the stuff together and got it all set up ready for business just before the show started at Noon ET. All they needed was customers who were hungry and/or thirsty.

Once the show started, Missy called in to let us know that they were up and running and gave the girls a chance to say hello to the world. While she was talking, customer #1, good old Ralph, got the day rolling. Then, just as the live stream was about to end, Missy called in a second time to give us an update and chat for a bit. She also got to meet Sweet Pea who was also on the line. Babes everywhere I tell ya!

The show itself was pretty entertaining. We talked about other fundraising ideas like becoming sculptors. Also, about some other stuff we could sell at our own lemonade stands if we did one. Ours wouldn’t be nearly as nice as Missy’s. We talked about Missy’s goodies and especially the how much we love glazed muffins, plus all kinds of other somewhat hilarious stuff.

Then after the show, Matt and Jay each had some pizza, watched some football and took a nap. We did this without any coordination at all. We’re just that much in sync. What where Missy and the girls doing while we were enjoying our pizza, football and naps? They were slaving at the lemonade stand, that’s what! We actually both feel a little guilty about that, but well there’s nothing we can do about it now.

We would like to send out a big thanks to the wonderful Missy and her girls for doing all this. It was so sweet of them. It’s really great to have someone like Missy who so supportive and genuine around, especially since it’s pretty debatable whether or not we deserve her. It was a great day and we are definitely feeling the love here at IWS and hope everyone else is too!

Thanks so much Missalicious!

And, you can listen to “Missy’s Flour Power Hour” on IWS right there on this handy-dandy player…

IWS Babe of the Week: Are You Ready for Some Football?

Today marks the first full day of the 2012-2013 NFL Football Season, and let me tell ya, the draft choices this year have been HOT!!

We have this trio who the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have drafted..

The Carolina Panthers needed a Tight End so they picked up this chick...

Not sure who this chick cheers for, but I think it may be the franchise called the Amsterdam Windmills...

Although I am not gay, I find the pink pop-poms very gauche against the red and yellow of the Washington Redskins colors on this hollar girl...

They say that everything is bigger in Texas, but this Texans cheerleader proves that petite is just as HAWT...

I hate the Dallas Cowboys, but the over the shoulder look from this Cowboy cheerleader makes me want to  go choke my dogie...

Annnnnnnnd we have one more cheerleader to give a shout out to today...  The biggest IWS Cheerleader in the world, Missy, and she will be live on the air today with Jayman and Matt-Man at Noon ET...

We hope you can join us as Missy talks to us live from her IWS Lemonade Stand Live today at Noon ET on Blog Talk Radio.

She is selling her wares in order to help IWS become a Premium Blog Talk Radio Show.  It's gonna be huge!!

You can catch the the action live at Noon ET today by clicking Here.

Until then, we have but one thing to say...

Are you ready for some football!!?

Cheers!!

Let's Hear it for the Boys

Hola, Cheers, and Hi?  Mischie here for I’m With Stupid.

I want to s….hold on…I have to say first and foremost that I hate the name, Mischie.

I understand why Jayman bequeathed that upon me, but I hate it; however, you can all call me Miss or Missy, or as Matt-Man calls me…

“That chick I wanted to make out with in the janitor’s closet in 7th grade.”

Anyway, tonight as I type this, the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon is going on, and that’s cool, I like helping out people with physical difficulties, however…

Have you ever thought about helping out a couple of kids with emotional difficulties?  With mental difficulties?  With, “I am being exploited” difficulties?

Unfortunately, I have…and yet?

I am going to do something to help a couple of folks who have a more profound problem…two guys who have moral and societal impairments.

This coming Sunday, September 9th, my lazy ass, is going to take itself and my two cute, yet unappreciative of how awesome their mother is daughters of mine outside on the curb, and have a Lemonade/Bake Sale for these two hipster harlequins that we call, Jay and Matt.

I mean c’mon folks, they hit Number One without any help whatsoever from BTR.  Can you imagine if they had 400 dollars in order to become a Premium Show and get advertisements, a rolling ad, and free calls to their guests?

They’d be Number One every fricking week!!  I mean, listen to the show they did yesterday for Godsakes:

Jay and Matt have done their best to be Number One…

Okay maybe not their best, but they take a lot of time to make us laugh or just smile, and I for one, want to make them a premium show so they can do even more. I am going to force my daughters to hold a Bake Sale/Lemonade Stand with me this Sunday, September 9th, and I hope to hell that you do the same.

I am Missy….and I’m With Stupid.

Cheeers!!
