Killing It on IWS Radio!

As if killing it while discussing movies and music the last two weeks, IWS Radio completed the pop culture trifecta this week by talking about comedy! Not just different styles of stand-up, but comedy writing and sketch comedy and just about anything that makes us laugh. It was a freaking comedy extravaganza!

Matt opened the show by talking about doing a little bidness with register.com and finding out the people helping him actually listen to IWS Radio!

Jayman talks about all the love he got from friends and family on his birthday. To show how much he’s grown as a person he totally didn’t mention any of the people who DIDN’T wish him a happy birthday!

Matt and Jay agreed that any mistakes made during the show could easily be blamed on the time change thus relieving them of any responsibility for anything that went wrong.

Bobby Kraft did a hilarious standup routine recorded live from the Soupy Sales Memorial Comedy Stage at Hodgepodge Lodge. He totally trashed all the people whining about the time change.

There was a short discussion about Seinfeld the comedian and Seinfeld the sitcom. Plus a celebration of the “Schmoopie” episode.

Jerry Clower was celebrated for his wit, humor and humanity.

George Carlin shared an incomplete list of impolite words.

Rob Barlet entertained the folks in his own special way.

Doug Stanhope gave an example of people taking comedy out of context.

Chris Rock and Bill Burr shared some bits of reality with us.

Matt-Man sneakily rounded up some Happy Birthday wishes for the Jayman.

Jamie Mapleleaf called in to save the show near the end.

There was a quick discussion about comedians we hate and whether or not women are funny.

And so much more! Definitely check this one out!

Ranting, Eating and Drinking

It was another somewhat awkward yet epic episode of IWS Radio this week. Special guest Mr. Bum Wine Bob was a little later than usual so Matt and Jay attempted to fill time and then got bailed out by a couple of hawt callers! We …

Discussed our weeks and engaged in some witty banter.

Talked about the proper way to pronounce “Ohio.”

Gave a quick analysis of the week in college football and Auburns devastating loss to Texas A&M.

The lovely and talented Gnetch AKA: Little Miss Sunshine ranted about men catcalling women.

Analyzed the catcall video and agreed that we are quite outraged by the behavior of those men.

Got a call from our good friend Gail Koverman! She talked about Cleveland, Rock Concerts, Tippecanoe and her favorite fast food joints.

Gideon Foresight was on hand to tell a few horoscopes.

Bobby Kraft tried his hand at stand-up comedy and brought the crowd at The Gigglezone in Redneckville to their feet.

Jamie Mapleleaf called in to keep us company for a while.

And then Bum Wine Bob called in and told us all about the awesomeness of the Bum Wine Lifestyle!

And? So much more!

We'll Charm Your Pants Right Off!

In our illustrious three plus year history of IWS Radio we have had more charming and entertaining shows than this week’s Homespun fun at Hodgepodge Lodge. Wait, no we haven’t! This was about as fun as it gets folks! Just hanging out and relaxing near our new lodge in the wilds of Northern Minnesota!

Matt and Jay were live without a net, but we didn’t need one. We just brought our natural charm and youthful exuberance and put it all on display for the folks. Mostly we talked about our new retreat and all the fun stuff there is to do there including the IWS party barge out on Kitchi Lake!

Then our good friend Aunt Jackie took the stage at the Hodgepodge Lodge Dean Martin Memorial Lounge and Karaoke Center and ROCKED THE HOUSE! We did take a moment to finally pay actual respect to our friend and fellow writer Dr. Maya Angelou by having her great half nephew Jermaine Angelou say a few words. We even more or less decided that we’re good with her using the “Dr.” title even though her doctorate is honorary. Why not! We were in a good mood after a round of golf on the Hodgepodge Lodge Payne Stewart Memorial Golf Course!

Then we welcomed Bobby Kraft who had a few choice words about all these damn Country Music awards shows. He’s not a fan y’all! That was followed up by a disturbing report from Guy and Mr. Vague live from the Australian Outback. That upset us, but we decided to go swimming at the Hodgepodge Lodge Esther Williams Memorial Swimming Area at Kitchi Lake with our friend Jessica Alba!

Then the lovely and talented Jamie Mapleleaf called in to charm our pants right off of us. Kirk Douglas did the weather, Phil Diller brought the laughs and we just talked about everything under the sun! You should totally check this show out! You can use the player below or use the direct mp3 link and player on our PodBay site and avoid BTR's crappy website, ads and other crap!

Oh look! There's no player here. Well, I guess you'll just have to use the PodBay link since BTR can't be bothered to actually work right most of the time. What a great fucking value they are! Anyway, please do listen using the link because it was a pretty cool show. Thanks!

Christmas Fun and Games

Holaaaaaaaaaaaaa! It’s Christmas Eve and we’re all really busy with last minute shopping, cooking and family fun. Before things get out of hand though, IWS Radio has a couple of pretty fun audios for your enjoyment. If you listened to “Holly Jolly Festivus” this week, then you heard both of these. If you didn’t, then SHAME ON YOU!! I mean, then here’s your chance to check out some of the jocularity you missed!

First we have Santa Claus doing his standup comedy routine for us.

Next, we’ve got the IWS Players (Paul Piatt, Bobby Kraft, Dixie Ozark, Malcolm Eckstein, Made in Canada Jamie, Dusty Sandman and Stubby Stonehenge) performing “Twas the Night Before Christmas.”

Thank you to everyone out there who has supported IWS Radio and listened and read our blog! We love each and every one of you guys! Merry Christmas!!!

Mayhem in the AM Shut Down by the PC Police

Hola all you politically correct folks out there! Well, the PC Police got ‘em another one, or uh, three on Monday as the three DJ’s from the “Mayhem in the AM” show on 790 the Zone in Atlanta got canned for their “insensitive” and “offensive” remarks on the air. What did they say? Well, they mocked former New Orleans Saints player Steve Gleason who is suffering from ALS. If you would like to hear the 2 minute segment you can RIGHT HERE.

I don’t know anything about the history of these guys so I don’t know if this is more or less offensive than their usual shtick. I also don’t know if it rises to level of deserving to be fired over. It was certainly lame, and completely unfunny, and I can see how people found it insensitive and even OUTRAGEOUS.

This comes on the heels of my spending some time reading and digesting Patton Oswalt’s “A Closed Letter to Myself About Thievery, Heckling and Rape Jokes” If you haven’t read it, I do recommend that you set aside a free afternoon and do so if you’re a fan of comedy. (It’s kind of long.)

Although I do love and follow comedy very much, I’m not a comedian. I’m not a stand-up comic and I’m not a professional humorist. I occasionally say or write something that is funny, but that’s usually by accident. But, I am the cohost of the (usually) number one rated comedy show on BlogTalkRadio. This doesn’t make me any kind of big expert on comedy or anything like that, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have opinions on comedy either. (BTW, a big pet-peeve of mine is all these people who just up and call themselves comedians and suddenly declaring themselves the equal to people like George Carlin, Bill Hicks and Chris Rock.)

These radio hosts who did the lame bit on Steve Gleason aren’t comedians either though. They’re shock jocks who are hired to … well … shock people! You know, all these “morning zoo” shows are pretty much the same. And most radio station and network owners are basically like sports team owners when it comes to steroids. They’re fine with it as long as it doesn’t cause TOO much controversy or cost them money.

For a country full of people who love to brag about how “politically incorrect” we all are, we sure do demand the complete and total destruction of someone’s entire livelihood when we decide they’ve said something mean or offensive, don’t we? We are all about wagging our finger at folks who get out of line or go too far. Good thing we’re all so pure and perfect in our own lives and none of us ever tell any off-color or race or gender joke ourselves or we would look like a bunch of hypocrites, huh?

The problem with amateurs such as these guys on 790 the Zone is that after the “shock joke” there usually isn’t anything else. We’re not professional comedians so the “shock joke” isn’t usually part of a bigger picture or a deeper critique of society or culture or whatever. That’s why people like Carlin and Chris Rock are so great. There’s subtlety to their jokes or stories about black people, white people, stupid people, fat people etc that is actually saying more about society and our culture than the people they’re supposedly mocking. I don’t know about “rape jokes” though. Those are kind of hard to do.

Generally I don’t care about what comedians decide to joke about. I feel like they should feel safe and free to bring up any subject up there on stage. They certainly aren’t free from the consequences of what they say, or above being criticized though. Radio hosts on the other hand have to worry about bosses and advertisers and if they go too far and damage the show and kill the revenue then they’re goners.

That’s what’s so awesome about blogs and podcasts like I’m With Stupid. We are free to say or write whatever we want. People might disagree, quit reading or listening and maybe even let us know we suck, but at least we can’t get fired from it.

And, thank God we can’t get fired otherwise we would have been sent packing a looooooooong time ago!

It's Funny Time!

Last night Matt-Man and Jayman brought the funny. We told some of our favorite jokes of all time and it was non-stop hilarity!  We also talked about our favorite comedians and a bit about comedy in general. Like how important delivery is. Jayman is especially good at messing up and having to start over. PEOPLE LOVE THAT!

Anyway, we told some all-time classics like…

The muffins were in the oven cooking away when one muffin turned to the one next to him and said “Is it hot in here, or is it just me?” The other muffin turned to him and said “OH MY GOD! A TALKING MUFFIN!!”

Q: What do you call a black guy who flies a plane? A: The pilot! What are you? Fucking racist?

Q: Where can you hide extra cash from your Jewish wife?  A: Under the vacuum cleaner.

And you know what? It just got funnier from there! So, take a few minutes out of your busy schedule and check it out. We would much appreciate it and it will put a smile on your face.

And, in keeping with the funny theme this week, I’m With Stupid has named Sarah Silverman our Babe of the Week! Sarah is one of the funniest, and hottest, comedians ever. Sarah is known for rather brash humor and her willingness to hit on controversial topics such as race, sex and religion. We here at  I’m With Stupid support this and welcome Sarah to her rightful place as BotW
